November 2, 2018

  • Gary Tankersley promoted to Head of Sales & Distribution
  • Abigail Benham promoted to Vice President, National Accounts
  • George Revoir, long-time leader in JHRPS distribution, to retire in December 2018

BOSTON, MA –  In support of its holistic retirement offerings, John Hancock announced today that Gary Tankersley has been promoted to head of Sales and Distribution for John Hancock Retirement Plan Services (JHRPS). He will report to Patrick Murphy, president and CEO, JHRPS, and join the senior leadership team at RPS. The appointment is effective immediately.

In this role, Mr. Tankersley is accountable for growing JHRPS business in all segments of the market, encompassing start-ups to large organizations and the Taft-Hartley market to drive new sales, as well as expanding and overseeing JHRPS’ relationship with broker dealers. He will be based in Denver, CO.

Mr. Tankersley has 23 years of experience in the retirement plan services business. He joined John Hancock in February 2000 as regional vice president at JHRPS. He was promoted to divisional vice president for the Central Region in January 2013 and has served in that role until this announcement. In both 2016 and 2017 he received JHRPS’ award for divisional vice president of the year and during his tenure, Mr. Tankersley doubled sales in his territory.

“We are pleased to have Gary lead our Distribution and Sales organization to expand distribution access and success,” said Mr. Murphy. “Gary has a talent for being able to create an environment of collaboration and motivate his team to increase our business with solutions that work for our prospects and clients throughout all sectors of the retirement plan marketplace.”

Also promoted was Abigail Benham into the role of vice president for National Accounts with responsibility for overseeing JHRPS’ relationships with broker-dealers and consulting firms as well as a team of national account managers.  She will be based in Boston and report to Mr. Tankersley.

Ms. Benham joined JHRPS in 1998 as a marketing associate and has worked most recently as manager, National Accounts. In that role since 2007, Ms. Benham was responsible for developing strategy and executing business plans for several of John Hancock’s largest broker dealer relationships, representing over a third of JHRPS key account assets.

“Abigail has continuously demonstrated strong leadership in her various roles at JHRPS; she has a deep passion for building relationships and cultivating partnerships with mutually beneficial results,” said Mr. Tankersley. “I’m confident her experience and knowledge will help cement a strong future for our team at JHRPS and the partners and clients we serve.”

In parallel, George Revoir, senior vice president, National Accounts & Distribution, will retire from JHRPS in December 2018. With nearly 35 years in the retirement plan services industry, 26 of which were at JHRPS, Mr. Revoir has received many internal and industry accolades for his work in distribution and intermediary services.

“George has been an asset to John Hancock and the entire retirement industry,” said Mr. Murphy. “We appreciate his dedication and expertise through the years and are thankful that he will be with us through the end of the year to help the leadership team with some key initiatives.”
