Manulife-Sinochem helps bring dreams to life for deaf children in Sichuan

Sichuan - Manulife-Sinochem this month launched its 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility event entitled “Listening to the Love Echo,” a two-month program to bring dreams to life for deaf children in poverty-stricken areas of Sichuan province.

Tens of thousands of agents from more than 30 branches will sell “Love Umbrellas” to raise money to buy audiphones for deaf children. Audiphones are special devices that use sound vibrations to help the hearing impaired to communicate.

Manulife-Sinochem has a long history of actively participating to help children with disabilities, including building five special schools for disabled children in Sichuan last year.

Mr. James Lin, President of Manulife-Sinochem said: “Deaf children live in a silent word, but they are intelligent and work hard to face their life challenges positively. We hope to get the community’s support to help these children. The purchase of each and every Love Umbrella will make an important contribution to the lives of many deaf children.”

Manulife-Sinochem is committed to being socially responsible in the communities in which it does business. Over the past 13 years, Manulife-Sinochem has contributed to various organizations working on behalf of worthwhile causes for the betterment of society, including poverty, cancer research, dread disease, improving the environment and children’s education.
