Manulife Insurance (Thailand) Public Company Limited announces the appointment of new President: Bruce Hodges

Bangkok - Manulife Insurance (Thailand) PCL (Manulife Thailand), a Canadian-based leading financial-services provider and Official Life Insurance Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, has announced the appointment of Bruce Hodges as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Thai operation, effective February 1, 2007.

Mr. Hodges joined Manulife six years ago and has held various roles in insurance product pricing, marketing and communications, human resources, Information Systems, and operations. He moved to Japan three years ago from Toronto, Canada, where he’s most recently held the position of Vice President and Managing Corporate Officer for the Insurance business of Manulife Life Insurance Company (Japan). Prior to working at Manulife, Mr. Hodges worked with several other companies in the banking and insurance sectors, and earned an MBA with a focus on financial services.

In his new General Manager role for Manulife Thailand, Mr. Hodges is responsible for the continued growth of Manulife’s business operation in Thailand, including its individual insurance and group life and health business.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of growing Manulife in the competitive Thai marketplace,” said Bruce Hodges at a press conference at the Four Season’s hotel in Bangkok. “Our Thai business has a solid foundation upon which we will expand our business, supported by a team of dedicated managers, employees and agency.”

“I am confident that with Bruce’s broad knowledge and professional experience, he will provide strong leadership and strategic direction in charting the Company’s successful future,” said Philip Hampden-Smith, EVP and General Manager, ASEAN, Manulife Financial, at the press conference.

In its quest to becoming a significant player in Thailand, Manulife has undertaken a number of strategic priorities, including: a major renovation of its head office in Bangkok as well as a number of branch offices across the country; updating of its hardware and software to bring it in line with the sophisticated systems currently being used by Manulife globally; and, extensive training of local staff and agency to enhance their product knowledge and customer service skills.
