Manulife Financial awarded contract by Canada Post to provide Absence Management Solutions

Waterloo - Manulife Financial has been contracted by Canada Post to implement its Integrated Absence Solution product for their National Disability Management Program across Canada, representing the largest sale ever for Manulife Financial’s Group Benefits business and the largest in the benefits industry since 1995.

“This program is a great example of how we continue to leverage our national disability management capabilities,” said Rick Brunet, Executive Vice President, Group Benefits, for Manulife’s Canadian Division. “Manulife is uniquely positioned to provide a wide range of group benefits services and this is an important opportunity to again set ourselves apart from our key competitors and others in the industry.”

Canada Post is one of the country’s largest employers. To service the contract, Manulife has opened a new Absence Management Solutions office in Ottawa, in addition to expanding in four other offices across Canada, Mr. Brunet added.

“This business partnership is a great opportunity for Canada Post to align its disability-management program with industry best practices and to provide employees high quality support during times of illness or injury”, said Nicole Goodfellow, General Manager, Human Performance Excellence at Canada Post. “Ensuring that our disability-management programs meet the needs of our employees and their team leaders will help us achieve our goal to become one of the best places to work in Canada.”

Manulife Financial’s Group Benefits unit is an industry leader in health benefit management. It provides a broad range of coverage to millions of Canadians; including health and dental care, emergency travel assistance, short and long term disability, absence management services and wellness products, flex plans, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.

Manulife’s Integrated Absence Solution is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program that is customized to support Canada Post’s National Disability Management Program for the medical management of absences due to illness or injury. The program provides hands-on case management services to the front line manager and the employee to support the employee’s safe and timely return to health and work.
