Manulife Financial President and CEO Dominic D’Alessandro officially opens Manulife Plaza Vietnam Headquarters in Phu My Hung Urban Center of Saigon South

Company further demonstrates strong and long-term commitment to Vietnam with the development of new headquarters property

Ho Chi Minh City – Today, President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Financial, Dominic D’Alessandro, made a visit from the Company’s global headquarters in Canada to preside over the official grand opening ceremony of Manulife Plaza, the Company’s new headquarters for its Vietnam operations. The seven-storey, 6,064 square-meter building in the new Phu My Hung Urban Center of Saigon South can house up to 950 staff and agents and was completed in May 2007. The building is valued at US$10 million.

Manulife Vietnam was honored to welcome former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, Madame Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee, Mr. Vu Bang, President of State Securities Committee, Canadian Ambassador Gabriel Lessard and his wife, and Consul General William Johnston, as well as other distinguished senior ranking officials in Vietnam to the ceremony. Also present at the grand opening were Robert Cook, Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager of Manulife Financial, Asia, Philip Hampden-Smith, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Manulife Financial, South East Asia and other senior Manulife Vietnam Management Board Members.

Plans for the building were unveiled in June 2005 by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and Manulife President and CEO, Dominic D’Alessandro at Manulife Financial’s headquarters in Toronto, Canada. The classic colonial style building incorporates several unique design elements including a large landscaped entrance plaza, complete with an outdoor cafe, as well as a covered terrace on the seventh floor.

“The grand opening of our new Manulife Vietnam headquarters building is a significant milestone in our business growth in Vietnam,” said Dominic D’Alessandro at the ceremony. “This is the first building Manulife has developed in Asia, also the first foray into property investment in Vietnam, a move that reinforces our strong and long-term commitment to this country. By investing in these new headquarters, Manulife can continue to provide excellent service to all our customers and contribute to the development of the local economy for many years to come.”

“After more than eight years of operations in Vietnam, Manulife has established its reputation as a leading life insurer in the country with distinctive strengths in professional distribution and product innovation,” continued Mr. D’Alessandro. “We are confident that the state-of-the-art Manulife Plaza building, right in the heart of this new urban center, will further enhance the visibility and credibility of the Manulife brand.”

“We are proud that ours is among the first buildings constructed in the commercial sector of the new Saigon South urban area,” said David Wong, General Director of Manulife Vietnam.

“This excellent commercial and residential development area is a very positive sign that Vietnam’s economy continues to move in the right direction, and we are thrilled to be at the center of the rapid expansion that is taking place.” Mr. Wong added.

When complete, the new Saigon South City Center is expected to include the securities stock exchange, shopping centers, international exhibition venues, office buildings, full service banking institutions and high-rise hotels. The 2,600 hectare area is an urban development project of Phu My Hung Corporation.

The development of the Manulife building was managed by Manulife’s Real Estate Division and supported by a strong team of local project consultants and contractors, including: Real Architecture; Duffill Watts & Tse Ltd., Consulting Engineer; and Cofico (Construction Company No. 1), General Contractor.
