Hong Kong— Manulife (International) Ltd. (MIL) announces the appointment of two new senior executives to its Individual Financial Products (IFP) division. George Chew joins Manulife as Vice President, Individual Financial Products, and John Law is appointed Assistant Vice President, Marketing Actuarial, Individual Financial Products.
George Chew will head Manulife’s IFP business in Hong Kong, assuming overall management responsibility for the growth and development of individual financial products and services, including individual life insurance, general insurance and credit-card business.
Manulife’s Executive Vice President and General Manager, Hong Kong, Michael Huddart said: “We are delighted to welcome George aboard. He has a strong background in both distribution management and product management and will be the key figure leading the development of our individual financial products business to the next stage of its ongoing expansion.”
Mr. Chew said he is looking forward to the challenge offered by working with one of the leading insurers in the world and expressed the belief that his long experience with industry leaders in his native Singapore — where both the social and market conditions are most similar to those of Hong Kong — would stand him in good stead for this exciting new role.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Chew was Sales Director for an UK-based insurer in Singapore. He has run his own online insurance business and been managing director of a timber company, as well as holding various senior posts with a number of other major multinational insurance companies.
Mr. Chew is a graduate of the National University of Singapore, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
John Law joins Manulife as Assistant Vice President, Marketing Actuarial, IFP. He will take charge of product pricing and development for the company’s business lines including IFP and Wealth Management and play a key role in formulating and supporting Manulife’s IFP marketing strategies.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Law held senior posts with the retirement-services division of a multinational insurer, in both Hong Kong and Japan, where he specialized in annuity product development and bancassurance. Previously, he worked for major international insurance and consulting firms in Canada, the U.S. and Hong Kong, with experience in investments, financial reporting, pricing and consulting on new ventures into Asia, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Law is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and holds a Bachelor of Mathematics Degree with Distinction from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
